CIF mum on North Salinas sprinter stripped of state title for celebration

For the North Salinas sprinter stripped of her gold medal at the California high school track and field championships for cooling off her spikes with a fire extinguisher it is unclear if there are any more initiatives to appeal According to the California Interscholastic Federation track and field handbook all appeals must be made in writing to what is described as the Coaches Corner which the handbook says is outlined in National Federation rule - Clara Adams was disqualified after celebrating her domination in the girls -meter final on Saturday in Clovis with a fire extinguisher which her dad and sprint coach David Adams handed her once she walked off the track The DQ kept her from claiming the first-place medal and running in the final later in the meet David Adams notified the Monterey Herald that a protest at the meet was denied The CIF has not responded to multiple requests for clarification from the Bay Area News Group and its sister paper the Monterey Herald In its track and field handbook however the CIF outlines code of conduct policies for its athletes and subversion responsibility for its coaches It reads School personnel are expected to supervise students at all times including trip to and from the meet and at any time the students are present in the host city in a restaurant or hotel or in any other location School personnel are expected to set high standards of behavior that are meant to show the highest form of respect for themselves their school neighborhood and also others and their property These standards must include clear prohibition of the use of any illegal substance tobacco or alcohol Students conduct as well as the conduct of coaches and other school personnel will reflect positively or negatively upon themselves their families the school and the sport It is the expectation of CIF that standards of behavior will be set and discussed with students before traveling to the meet and that standards will be enforced throughout the time the students are away from school for the event Pursuing Accomplishment with Honor principles apply at all times Related Articles CIF NorCal softball roundup Willow Glen s season ends at Del Oro Northgate rolls You guys are freakin cockroaches Santa Clara continues dream season with five-run comeback walk-off win One pitch from elimination St Francis rallies for thrilling NorCal win De La Salle surges into NorCal D semifinals with win over Del Oro CIF NorCal baseball roundup Serra edges College Park in -inning thriller Adams celebration copied what Olympic champion Maurice Greene did at a meet in Carson in Green also used a fire extinguisher to cool off his shoes In a story published on Tuesday by Monterey TV station KSBW Green stated he received a number of calls about Adams people telling him that she did his celebration If it was away from everyone and not interfering with anyone I would say reinstate her Green reported
