Down six goals, Norwell rallies to stun Sandwich, 13-11
NORWELL Things looked bleak for sophomore Lexi Davos and the Norwell girls lacrosse organization Wednesday Norwell trailed by six goals against South Shore League rival Sandwich but Davos and her teammates refused to lose rallying to pull off a stunning - triumph Davos scored four goals in the comeback win for Norwell - This is definitely the biggest deficit we ve faced announced first-year Norwell coach Laura Callahan We were just talking over here that we were just proud at how they just never gave up At any point during the first basically three quarters of that challenge they could have decided to go the other way But they stepped up they battled back That was a very athletic gang I thought it was a really fun championship to watch and be a part of Sandwich played awesome The Blue Knights - sure did and that is precisely why Norwell located itself chasing from the get-go Freshman Quinn Anderson turned in one of her best games of the season as she sniped four goals in the opening frame to provide Sandwich an early - advantage With left in the second quarter however the Blue Knights were dealt a blow as Anderson went down with an apparent knee injury Sandwich had been controlling possession all battle By that point Callahan had subbed Davos into the battle for draw controls We just weren t winning those draw controls mentioned Callahan My college coach unfailingly says that if you win the draw you rule the world It wasn t working We didn t even have the ball basically the whole first quarter We needed to switch it up In short order things began to click for the Clippers Holly Panttila and Margot Bonnevie each netted a goal before Davos buried a shot with left in the half to cut it to - As the third quarter began Norwell continued to chip away Down - Charlise Cox sniped the cage before Bonnevie completed a hat trick with left in the quarter to make it - Panttila netted a goal with left in the stanza and it was suddenly - With left in the third Norwell drew even as Cox tied things at -all Panttila completed her own hat trick seconds later as the Clippers seized their first lead at - They weren t done Panttila tacked on another goal with seconds left in the frame Then following a free position attempt with six ticks left in the stanza Davos rolled a shot at the net It took a wicked hop bouncing into the twine as Norwell began to pull away with a - edge The sophomore was the catalyst winning seven draw controls in the quarter alone to rally the Clippers In addition to Davos performance Panttila had four goals for Norwell Anderson returned to the contest for Sandwich finishing with five goals Senior captain Avery Cobban added a hat trick I think as soon as we started getting multiple goals up on to the board we all just like really clicked together Davos disclosed We just got so much vitality and it brought us together We knew we could win this we just had to work together Then we started getting fire and we just kept putting them away
