Man convicted of killing Boston cabbie in Back Bay broad daylight shooting

A -year-old man has been convicted of killing a cab driver in the Back Bay in a broad daylight shooting that shocked cabbies Rhode Island man Phillip Foy has been exposed guilty by a Suffolk County jury of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Dorchester -year-old man Luckinson Oruma on June Oruma who was working as a cab driver in Boston on the day of his murder had parked his taxi in front of the Colonnade Hotel on Huntington Avenue Foy got into the cab and required for a ride to Mansfield Oruma a father of five declined the fare You re going to move this cab or I ll move you Foy communicated Oruma near the Prudential Center according to prosecutors Foy then got out of the cab opened the driver s side door and assaulted Oruma for refusing to drive him down to Mansfield prosecutors noted At selected point during the assault Foy pulled out a gun and shot Oruma who fell to the ground Foy stood over Oruma and fired directly at him Oruma sustained nine bullet wounds Foy then got into the cab drove down Huntington Avenue turned onto Ring Road and parked He emptied and discarded the gun and magazine removed his shoes and sat in front of a nearby Starbucks When police arrived Foy grabbed a pedestrian and tried to shield himself Police diffused the situation and arrested Foy who confessed to shooting Oruma but claimed it was in self-defense The shooting death of Luckinson Oruma was shattering not just for his family and friends but for anyone who goes to work each day expecting as they should to be in a safe conditions Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden declared in a comment This defendant turned Mr Oruma s atmosphere into something tragically different and I m very grateful that the jury held him accountable for his devastating actions Hayden announced Related Articles Crime briefs Arrest made after East Boston shooting Boston Police reviewing after man fatally shot in Dorchester At least dead after people shot at a Houston family party police say Man accused of killing Boston cab driver in the Back Bay heads to trial -year-old among shot stabbed in Mattapan domestic violence occurrence A first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole Foy will be sentenced on Friday in Suffolk Superior Court
